A Typical Friday Night

“What do you want to do, dude?” Mikey asked me as if there was anything to do in this god forsaken town. Especially when you’re only thirteen years old with no money.

“I don’t know, I didn’t know five minutes ago and guess what? I probably won’t know in another five minutes.”

“Alright bud, no need for the tude’. Why don’t we go try and scare your sister or something?”

“Now you’re talkin’. See, was it really that hard to think for once?”

“You’re such an asshole B. Such an ass.” Mikey said as he put me in a headlock and gave me a noogie.

“You fucker!” I shouted as I pushed him off of me. We both had a laugh.

Mikey is hands down my best friend. We met during football practice a couple years back. For some reason we didn’t talk that much during practice those first few weeks. Until our first game of the season. The guy lined up across from me called me a “fat ass loser” if I recall correctly. Mikey who was lined up beside me responded before I could even think, “That’s not what your mom was sayin’ last night, ain’t that right B?”

“Damn straight!” I said, giddy as ever.

That’s all it took. That’s how a friendship is supposed to be formed. A simple ‘I’ve got your back’ type of situation and a brotherhood began. I’d never let him down and vice versa.

Sneakily, we Army crawled up to my Sisters door. To our surprise it was unlocked. My Sister, whose name is Bridgette has her friend Marissa over to stay the night. Bridgette is four years older than I am and a real pain in my ass if i’m being honest.

“We barge in on the count of three, cool?” I said in a whisper.

Mikey nodded his head with an enormous smile on his face. I raised my hand with three fingers up. 3…2…1…

“AHHHHHHHH!” We both shouted in unison as we opened the door.

The two of them sat legs crossed on her bed when we rushed in. Marissa was hunched over, face towards the bed. She had what looked like money rolled up tight and sticking out of her nose. When we screamed, both my Sister and Marissa jerked up right, spilling the white substance off the text book and all over the bed.

“You pieces of shit, get the fuck out!!!” My sister angrily replied.

As we ran back to my bedroom I heard my Sister yell, “You’re lucky we have more you little shits!”

I personally was used to seeing the sugar nose bandits. That’s what I like to call them anyway, Mom does it and so does my Sister. They’re less angry after a few sniffs of whatever that shit is so I don’t complain. Mikey on the other hand, looked like he had just seen a ghost.

“You gonna’ be alright, Mike?”

“Yeah, I have never seen someone doing drugs other than in the movies though. Just weird.”

“Well as far as I’m concerned you’ve still only seen people doing drugs in movies, got it?”

Mikey gave me a nod and we went about our night like nothing happened. At least I did, because in my eyes nothing out of the ‘norm’ had actually happened. We played a couple games of Madden before my Sister walked in my room. Her eyes were low and glossy, almost hollow. She stood in the doorway so wobbly that I was afraid the wind from my box fan would knock her over.

“Hey nerds, wanna’ do something fun?” She slurred every word that she spoke.

“Hell yeah we do!” I said without missing a beat.

“Well then come on, meet me downstairs in five.”

I was pumped up about the adventure. It was almost midnight and it felt rebellious to go out at this time. My mom was probably out at the bars so Bridgette was in charge of us. Which meant if she wanted to leave we had to go with her. Mikey didn’t look that thrilled about it.

“What’s wrong Mike? Don’t want to go?”

“I’m just tired is all, it’s been a long day.”

I could tell that he was nervous about riding around with them.

“Oh come on, it’ll be fun. She’s a B-I-T-C-H and all but she knows how to have a good time!”

“Alright, but if things get out of hand I’m going home.”

“Yeah right, Don’t be such a wimp Mikey.”

He hit me in my arm hard enough to get an “Ouch” out of me.

“Wow, nice one dickhead.” I said with a smile, and he smiled back.

Come on guys, lets go!” Marissa yelled for us from the bottom of the stairs. We grabbed our coats and ran down the stairs.

“Here, it’s cold outside and you’re gonna’ need these.”

Bridgette handed both of us a pair of gloves. It’s the middle of November and probably thirty-five to forty degrees outside.

“Where are we going?” I asked with excitement in my voice.

“You’ll see in good time, good time indeed.” Bridgette said this in her best evil scientist voice as she rubbed her hands together.

“Shut up dork and let’s go” I said with a chuckle.

We started to head out of the front door.

“Shotgun,” I yelled sprinting towards the car.

“In your dreams loser!” Marissa yelled.

Mikey and I got in the back seat and we took off.

“Are you seriously not going to tell us where we are going?”

“Well now that we have you two trapped in the car, I guess I can tell you.”

“Alright, well?”

“Dave cheated on me again with that whore Lindsay. We’re going to get a little payback, what do you say?”

Dave and my Sister have dated off and on for almost a year, he’s a tool bag but she isn’t the catch of the year herself. Regardless I’ve got Bridgette’s’ back.

“I say let’s fucking do it, Whatcha’ think Mikey?”

“I’m in, I never liked that guy much anyway.”

We pulled up to the apartment complex that Dave lived in. Marissa had passed out, I give credit to all of the white stuff she had been snorting that night. Bridgette didn’t seem to alert herself.

“Marissa, wake the fuck up.” Bridgette yelled at her as she smacked her on the arm.

Marissa jolted awake saying, “Bitch, I’m up.”

Bridgette turned her body towards the back seat and said, “Here you go.” handing each of us a pocket knife.

“What’re these for?” Mikey said, beating me to the question.

“You see that black car over there by the street light? That’s Dave’s car, go cut the tires and scratch the paint and all of that fun stuff.”

“No, you do it!”

“B, I can’t and neither can Marissa. We’re almost eighteen, we’d go to jail. You’d just be told not to do it again.”

“What do we get out of this?”

“I’ll pick up Pizza and I’ll let you guys drink some of our Vodka when we get home, sound good?”

“Fine, I’m in. Mikey?”

“You had me at Pizza.”

“Works for me.” Bridgette said high and laughing.

I was sitting on the passenger side of the back seat with Mikey on the drivers side. We got out of the car and sprinted straight for his vehicle. We didn’t worry about being seen because we didn’t plan on being there for more than a few seconds. I ran directly towards the front drivers side tire and stabbed into it with all of my strength. There was a loud hissing sound as I pulled the knife out of the tire. I heard the same sound from the back right tire as Mikey stabbed into it. We scratched the doors with our knives and I even attempted to outline a penis. Although it was unsuccessful I laughed at my attempt.

Moments later we were done, running back to Bridgette’s car laughing at the top of our lungs. Almost crying from how funny what we had just done was. Mikey got in on the passenger side this time. He was a good twenty yards ahead of me when he got in. I could tell by the brake lights that my sister had taken the car out of park. Afraid she might leave me I sped up. As I opened the rear drivers side door the dome light came on and I could see Marissa passed out again. Mikey was still laughing his ass off. At that moment Bridgette stepped on the gas.

I wasn’t able to get my foot in the door before she took off. I had one hand on the top of the car and my other hand on the door. I took off running with the car as fast as my legs could carry me. I looked at Mikey, who was no longer laughing. I reached for his hand but he didn’t budge. He was frozen, I tried to yell his name but before I knew it I was on the ground twenty yards behind the car. I’m not sure if I was knocked unconscious or if everything just happened so fast.

What…what happened….Did She run me over?

I tried to lift my head but I couldn’t. I wasn’t in pain, I just couldn’t move. I tried to yell out to Bridgette but my mouth wouldn’t open. I started to feel cold and sleepy. Bridgette and Mikey finally ran up to me.

What took them so long?

They were crying and shouting at me but all of their words sounded like gibberish. I started to feel a warm liquid pouring out of my mouth, nose, and ears.

Am I bleeding?

My vision started to become blurry and it finally hit me, I’m dying. Then everything went dark.
